Gospodăria – Gospodarul prevăzător își încheie socotelile de peste an, ca să vadă de a avut câștig ori pagubă; mai inspectează cele unelte de câmp.
Cât suflă crivățul la ușă, de nu ai da nici câinele afară din casă, împrejurul vetrii gospodarul chibzuit se îndeletnicește cu împletituri de paie, papură, sau măcar din pănuși de păpușoiu.
Asupra vitelor e toată grija. Să nu iasă slăbite din iarnă. Sunt scoase din grajd o dată pe zi; grajdul se curăță, se aerisește, iar vitele se țesală. Să nu se irosească hrana vitelor; Dumnezeu știe cât ține iarna.
Livada – doarme sub amorțeala iernii. Totuși, în zilele de moleșag se pot curăți pomii de frunzele uscate și sucite, care atârnă la crenguțe printr-un fir de mătasă. În ele se ascund adesea dușmanii din primăvară. Se sapă pomii la rădăcină și se pune gunoiul, acoperindu-se cu pământ sau măcar se adună zăpadă la rădăcina lor.
Ogorul – și el se odihnește. Din vreme în vreme însă, nu strică să se care pe el câte o grămăjoară de bălegar. Măcar că iarna natura pare amorțită, prin îngheț și desgheț, brazda se preface, iar dacă i se pun îngrășăminte, acestea intră în brazdă. Iată de ce se spune că orice ogor trebuie arat de cu toamnă. Pământul fărămițat se primenește mai lesne. Când pui primăvara sămânța în el, aceasta găsește hrana trebuitoare și prinde deodată rădăcini sănătoase.
Și pământul are viața lui; cine i-o-nțelege, îl îngrijește. Astfel trage foloase mai mari de la el.

Household – The cautious householder ends his counts over the year, to see if he has gained or has lost; he inspects the field tools.
As long as there’s frost at the door, and you wouldn’t throw the dog out of the house, around the wise householder’s fireplace he is skilled in braiding straw, rush, or at least cob sheets.
The whole worry surrounds the livestock. Let them not lose weight over winter. They are let outside once a day; the stable gets cleaned, ventilated, and the livestock is brushed. Let the food of the livestock not be wasted; God knows how long winter is going to last.
Orchard – sleeps over the winter numbness. Still, when the days are warmer may the trees be cleaned of the dry and curved leaves, who hang from the branches by a silky string. Within them there are usually hidden spring enemies. The trees get digged at the root and are surrounded by natural fertilizer or at least may you surround it with snow at the root.
Field – he rests as well. Once in a while, may you carry some manure. Although winter might seem numb, through frost and defrost, the furrow is renewed, and if you put manure, they enter the furrow. That is why they say every field must be ploughed in autumn. The crumbled earth regenerates easier. When you seed in the spring, the seed will find the nourishment it needs and takes healthy roots faster.
The earth has its own life; who understands it, understands him. Therefore it gains more uses from him.
