Numele Tău l-am scris cândva
copil, Iisuse, pe zăpadă,
dar ce curând nu mai era
dogoarea n-a putut să-o vadă.
L-am scris apoi cu tânăr dor
peste nisipul dintre ape,
dar valurile prea ușor
trecând, putură să-l îngroape.
Apoi l-am scris zâmbind din mers
în praf pe drumuri de țărână,
dar vântul prea curând l-a șters
nici urma lui să nu rămână...
Iar mai târziu l-am scris cântând
cu viers de aur pe hârtie
dar focul, focul greu trecând
l-a ars ca ani să nu-l mai știe.
Doar când cu plâns l-am ars pe fier
și-n piatră l-am crestat cu sânge,
neșters rămas-a până-n Cer
nici val, nici foc, nici vânt nu-l frânge.

Your Name I once wrote
as a child, Jesus, on the snow,
but how soon it was gone
the heat couldn't see it.
I wrote it then with young longing
over the sand between the waters,
but the waves too easily
passing by buried it.
I wrote it then walking smiling
in the dust on country roads,
but the wind too soon has wiped it
not a trace to be left behind it...
Then I wrote it in a song
with golden lyric on the paper
but the fire, heavy fire consumed it
burning it for years to be unknown.
Only when crying I burned it on the iron
and in stone I indented it with blood,
indelibly lasted till the Heavens
no wave, no fire, no wind to break it.
